Physically and mentally exhausted, Curtis arrived in Seattle on October 9, 1927, to find himself served with an arrest warrant for failing to pay his ex-wife alimony.

In 1930, Curtis went to live with Beth and her husband, Manford. He remained with them until he died in 1952.
