The Smithsonian Institution Libraries is a vital part of the research, exhibition, and educational activities of the world’s largest museum complex.With facilities in Washington, D.C., Maryland, New York, and the Republic of Panama, the Libraries is an academic and public library, a scholarly resource, and general information service.

The Libraries offers its treasures and the help of its informed staff to Smithsonian employees, outside scholars, and the pubic via on-site access to the collections, the Galaxy of Knowledge website, and a rich and varied schedule of book exhibitions, lectures, special events, and tours.
