Smithson moved to Paris in 1814 following the cessation of hostilities between France and England, which had been going on almost without interruption for twenty years. He spent the last year of his life in the French capital, and he owned a number of guidebooks on the city. Several of them, like this one, published in 1816, highlighted all the changes and architectural development that had taken place in the city under Napoleon., Image number:SIL28-252-01
