Smithson annotated many of his books. He often kept a list on the back flap of the page numbers in which he was most interested. Pinkney’s 1814 guide to France was a book that Smithson annotated extensively, often quite dismissively. Here he notes pages dealing with English servants, the Castle of Blois, and other things.
