Yasmeen Khan

Interns

Yasmeen Khan completed an eight-month internship in the Libraries' Book Conservation Laboratory working under Janice Stagnitto Ellis, Book Conservator, and Susan Blaine, head of Preservation Services Department, and earning a Master's degree and an Advanced Certificate in Conservation from the Department of Preservation and Conservation Studies (PCS) in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Texas Austin. The PCS program moved to UT Austin in 1992 from Columbia University where it had been established in 1981. Yasmeen worked on conservation treatment of bound material, and assisted in general preservation activities of the lab, including the installation of the Libraries' 150th-anniversary exhibition and a collection stabilization effort in the Museum of Natural History Branch. She also constructed a hand-made vellum book, bound in the manner of an 18th-century English book, which the Libraries donated to the Smithsonian Women's Committee for its Silent Auction.

Michelle Smith, who is also enrolled in the PCS program at UT Austin, served an internship in the Book Conservation Laboratory, completing a special collections prioritization survey.
