Kinship and Social Organization: An Interactive Tutorial. A basic guide to concepts of kinship, terminology used, systems of descent and marriage, and residence rules. Diagrams illustrate each. Includes ethnographic examples.

Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage features great access to Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, including audio samples, digital downloads from Smithsonian Global Sound, and the Smithsonian Folklife Festival--both the festival on the Mall and the Virtual Festival Online, a cultural celebration in cyberspace.

Native American Sites. Access to home pages of individual Native Americans or Nations and other sites about American Indians. Included is information about tribal colleges, native studies programs and Indian education, native media, powwows and festivals, sources for Indian music, native arts organizations and individuals, native businesses, etc.

The Nacirema Web: Resources on the Nacirema People. Great to use in classroom to introduce students to "anthro speak" (anthropological jargon) and this strange new North American culture. The Asu, a tribe whose culture and geography seem remarkably similar, are presented as well. A listing of anthropological works, courses, cultural artifacts, and the Nacirema in modern literature are all included. (Actually Nacirema is American spelled backwards and Asu is USA spelled backwards.)

Social Organization in a Turkish Peasant Village is part of a growing number of ethnographies on the Web. Listen to traditional Turkish music while you read an electronic version of Paul Stirling's 1965 monograph, Turkish Village, a classic account of rural social organization. A variety of materials from his subsequent visits and research in the community are being compiled and added under the title 45 Years in a Turkish Village.

Eggi's Village: Life among the Minangkabau of Indonesia. A virtual exhibit of photographs and text detailing life in this Indonesian village whose people are part of the "largest and most modern matrilineal society in the world today." Part of the University of Pennsylvania's Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology virtual exhibition.
