Contemporary African art: catalogue of an exhibition of contemporary African art held at the Camden Arts Centre, London. London, New York: Studio International, 1969. 40pp. illus. (pt. color), map, ports. N7380.C76 AFA. OCLC 67732.

The 1969 Camden Arts Centre exhibition of contemporary African art was one of the first comprehensive exhibitions to focus exclusively on modern creativity from Africa. "Representative" rather than "comprehensive" would be more accurate, since only a select few artists could be included. It is a testament to the curators that virtually all of these artists have withstood the test of time and are now recognized -- twenty-odd years later -- as accomplished, successful artists: Yemi Bisiri, Jimoh Buraimoh, Dumile, Uzo Egonu, Ibrahim El Salahi, Ovia Idah, Vincent Kofi, Sidney Kumalo, Malangatana, Azaria Mbatha, Julian Motau, Iba N'Diaye, Uche Okeke, Asiru Olatunde, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Hezbon Owiti, Gerard Sekoto, Twins Seven Seven, among others. A complete list of the artists is given (pp. 34-38).
