Administration
Roles.
This unit is responsible for overall project management of the
New Media Office. Duties include oversight of SIL Website, coordination
of database management projects, coordination of volunteers, interns,
and SIL staff working on website projects.
In
coordination with other SIL units, works on long term planning
for image archiving and retrieval. Coordinates SIL web and imaging
activities with other SI units.
Additionally,
all responsibility for imaging contracts, collaborative projects,
and imaging standards is located here. Works in conjunction with
other SIL units in the preparation of grants, requests for proposals,
etc.
Products.
The primary product of the unit is content for the SIL website,
including online exhibitions, digital editions, management of
contracted imaging, in-house imaging for special projects and
publications, etc. Effective management of staff, volunteers,
interns, etc.
Design
Group
Roles.
The Design Group is responsible for all graphic and website design
for SIL. Working in collaboration of project curators, outside
contractors, and others, the Design Group creates the look and
feel of the SIL web presence. The Design Group will work with
a variety of SIL, SI and non-SI content contributors.
Products.
The Design Group produces general SIL website content, online
exhibitions, digital editions and collections, web-database projects,
etc. The Design Group is also responsible for the creation and
maintenance of project specific databases.
Technical
Information. The Design Group uses a variety of hardware and
software in its work. The primary markup tool is Macromedia Dreamweaver
and the image software is Adobe Photoshop. Additional tools include
Arles Image Maker, Cold Fusion Studio, etc. The Design Group also
operates an Epson Perfection 1640SU flatbed scanner and a Nikon
LS-2000 Slide scanner.
Imaging
Center
Roles.
The Imaging Center provides high quality digital images for SIL.
Imaging work is done for projects mounted on the SIL website,
but also for support purposes such as gallery exhibition design
and installation, print publications for use by SIL, SI or non-SI
projects, publicity images, Development publications, and Director's
Office requests. Additionally, other "on-demand" scanning
may be done as resources permit. Staff at the Imaging Center is
also responsible for elements of imaging done by outside vendors.
The
Imaging Center is also responsible for the physical management
of contracted imaging. This includes pre-shipping collation, shipping
and receiving of incoming and outgoing materials, inspection of
the returned images.
Products.
In addition to images from both in-house and contracted imaging,
the Imaging Center is responsible for maintaining the SIL Imaging
Center Database and other databases related to imaging projects.
The Imaging Center is also responsible for effective scheduling
of equipment for use by SIL staff, contractors and volunteers/interns.
Technical
Information. The SIL Imaging Center operates both flatbed
scanners and a digital camera.
