New Media Office is responsible for creating Smithsonian Libraries'
digital editions, online exhibitions and other web content.

Technology
- Sewing
Machines. An ongoing project. Total number of images scanned
is now over 7,300.
- Scientific
Trade Literature Project. Consisting of approximately 50
companies and 250 pieces, the Scientific Instrument Project
is being curated by Steve Turner of National Museum of American
History. Jim Roan of the National Museum of American History
Library is assisting with selecting/pulling the catalogs and
an inventory of the collection is being done by volunteer Joe
Salcetti. Tom Baker of the SIL Cataloging Department is the
cataloging consultant on the project.
Art
and Design
- Audubon
and the Smithsonian. Design work by Nicole Van Doren of
the New Media Office is underway for this online exhibition.
American
Discovery
- The
birds of North America (Spencer Baird). Philadelphia, 1860.
Folio, 2 vols. Text lvi, 1005 pp. 100 plates). Scanning begun
in early March 2002 with completion scheduled for Fall 2003.
- United
States Exploring Expedition Project (Charles Wilkes). See

Mosaic
of Science
- Avifauna
of Laysan (Rothschild).
Scanning is complete and digital edition will be available in
the late summer, 2003.
- Histoire
Naturelle des Oiseau de l'Amérique septentrionale (Viellot).
Scanning of volume one completed by David Holbert of the New
Media Office; start of volume two pending.
- Report
Upon Natural History Collections (Nelson).
Images returned from vendor and digital edition will be available
in fall, 2003.
