Services

SIRIS Support responsibilities of the Systems Office:

  • Direct the implementation of the SIRIS system within SIL.
  • Oversee the testing of the integrated library system within SIL.
  • Represent SIL needs and goals in all SI-wide committees, task forces, and meetings concerning the Smithsonian Institution Research Information System (SIRIS).
  • Oversee SIL committees that write specifications for the automated system.
  • Coordinate the activities of SIL committees with the activities of SI-wide committees.
  • Resolve systems problems and coordinate system upgrades between SIL staff and SIRIS Office.
  • Produce reports and run special jobs and programs.
  • Achieve SIL goals in all activities associated with SIRIS including needs definition, selection, procurement, implementation, management, and enhancement.
  • Coordinate SIL's SIRIS activities, policies, and procedures with other SIRIS Members.
  • Support all automated systems for SIL staff for all functions of SIRIS including Cataloging, Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), Circulation and Acquisitions modules.

SIL Systems Office LAN Administration responsibilities:

  • Act as OCIO's SIL point-of-contact for management of desktop support for SIL staff.
  • Represent SIL in Institution-wide Information Technology-related task forces and committees.
  • Develop policies and procedures for LAN Administration and office automation that support the goals and objectives of SIL and the Institution.
  • Recommend hardware and software that support the goals and objectives of SIL that also meet the requirements of OCIO's Technical Reference Model.
