Odyssey Public Programs

The Smithsonian Libraries’ collection offers valuable keys to interpreting the past, understanding the present, and speculating on the shape of the future. To bring visitors closer to the great minds, historical events, and revolutionary ideas that live on in the Libraries' collection, a series of public programs will be held in conjunction with the Odyssey exhibition. Because the exhibition runs for 18 months, public programs will be held at seasonal intervals. Be sure to check our site regularly for updates:

Autumn and Winter Gallery Talks:
Gallery talks will be hosted by the Libraries’ book curators, librarians, and staff, who work closely with the manuscripts and volumes on display. A series of five lectures will be held at noon. Specific dates will follow shortly.

Autumn Family Day:
Also in the fall, the Libraries will host a Saturday event specifically for parents and children. It will feature a host of creative activities and a reading by Mary Pope Osborne, author of the Magic Tree House series.

Teacher’s Night:
Teachers everywhere will find Smithsonian Libraries’ collections useful in the classroom. This winter, Libraries’ staff will spend an evening with educators to present the wide variety of ways in which elements from the Smithsonian Libraries’ collections and Web site can advance educational curriculums.
