July 5th The transport again started upstream this morning. The trip will doubtless take longer than usual as the water is again very high. All day great rafts of logs were floating down the river with now and then a huge tree like a ship with a bridge - its roots extending high above the surface of the water. We are wondering what the situation is at Batavia camp and whether or not the high water has damaged the plane beyond repair. {p. 142}
