The
Smithsonian and its Libraries.
Close your eyes for a moment and visualize it. Children, teenagers,
adults, and senior citizens. They come from all over America, and
all over the world. They stop, look, and listen. They stand before
incredible exhibitions, displays, and artifacts. It is for them
and for all of us that the Smithsonian Institution exists. Highly
respected for its research centers as well as for its renowned museums
and educational programs, the Smithsonian also serves scholars around
the globe who study the vast information, artifacts, and specimen
collections of the Smithsonian.
An
integral part of the world's largest museum and research complex,
the Smithsonian Institution Libraries' collections are vital to
the research needed to create new knowledge and to prepare Smithsonian
museum exhibitions and programs. In
this age where knowledge-seekers face a greatly-expanded choice
of paths to reach the world's stores of information, the Libraries
is a leader and guide, connecting them with the resources which
provide understanding.
While
your membership in the Spencer Baird Society helps open paths to
knowledge through the Smithsonian Libraries, it also opens doors
for you! In cultural programs, exhibition openings, and behind-the-scenes
tours you'll learn more about the Libraries and the Smithsonian
and enjoy the company of other members. Select the contribution
