of Physics Emeritus, Boston University; Director, Center of Einstein
Studies (PhD, Stevens Institute of Technology in Physics); Philosophy
and History of Physics.
John
Stachel did his doctoral work on general relativity. He was an instructor
of Physics at Lehigh University from 1959 to 1961 and the University
of Pittsburgh from 1961 to 1962, and Research Associate in Physics
at the latter school from 1962 to 1964. Since then, he has been
a member of the Physics Department of Boston University.
He
also directs the Boston University Center for Einstein Studies,
which has sponsored conferences on the history of general relativity
and Einstein's early years; and co-edits (with Don Howard) the Center's

relativity.
In
addition to a number of specialized articles on aspects of the history

papers on:
"Relativity
and its Consequences for Physics in General"
"The 'Logic' of Quantum Logic"
"Marx's Critical Concept of Science"
"Scientific Discoveries as Historical Artifacts"
"Science and Capitalism"
February,
2006: First volume of a two-volume edition of "Going Critical,"
vol. 1, "The Criterion of Practice," is at press. Papers

2002:
"Einstein from 'B' to 'Z'" - collection

Professor
Stachel has also been editor of, among other books, Conceptual
