Smithsonian Scholarly Bibliography - Required Data Elements



The information below is designed to ensure uniformity and completeness in the Smithsonian Research Bibliography. All submissions should include adequate publication and administrative data. Please contact the SIL if you have questions.

Publication Data

  • Author or editor: For Smithsonian affiliate, last name, first name and second initial (ex. Smith, Jane T.) For non-Smithsonian authors, last name, first and second initial are acceptable (ex. Smith, J.T.)
  • Book, chapter or article title
  • Year of publication
  • Journal title
  • Journal volume, issue and/or part
  • Article or chapter page numbers: separated by dash (ex. 245-53)
  • Book publisher city
  • Book publisher

    • Administrative data

  • Fiscal Year (if known)
  • Smithsonian museum, division, department, program or other administrative unit, defined by the unit.
    For example:
    NASM
