The author uses the government commissioned Pavilion of Mexico from the Universal Exposition as her 1889 case study. She argues that perspectives on national identity can be extracted by looking at Mexican architecture. She adds that foreign influences play a major role in formulating the national identity of a colony. The structure is analyzed in the context of Mexican social and political history.
