Description:The first officially recognized airmail in the U.S. was carried aboard the balloon "Jupiter" in 1859. April 30, 1962 "Kathleen" was launched from Brawley CA carrying a box of 1, 029 envelopes which were postmarked El Centro, CA but the balloon went 55 miles, south of Mexicali, Mexico.
