Ward, Philip. "Contemporary art in Libya," African arts (Los Angeles) 4 (4): 40-43, 80, summer 1971. illus. (pt. color). Modern Libyan art is struggling in a rather arid artistic environment. One cannot (yet) speak of "Libyan art," embracing a common style or idiom. There are, however, several practicing Libyan artists working in varied styles from abstract to figurative to calligraphic and in different media, though painting seems to take precedence. Ward provides notes on around twenty Libyan artists, both those living and working in Libya and those abroad.
